Bishkek city

Bishkek is the capital and the heart of the Kyrgyz Republic, its political, economic, scientific and cultural center, and the main transportation hub. Bishkek is the place of supreme organs of state power, embassies and representations of foreign states. Bishkek is situated in the centre of Chui Valley at the foothills of snow-covered mountains of the Kyrgyz Ala-Too, at the sea level of 750 m.
Territory – 160 sq. km., population – about 1 million.
Residential areas have emerged in different times and thus differ from each other in their planning structure and comfort level. Recent years are being characterized by a line of new buildings adjacent to the city with their own microstructure. The city with its administrative-territorial divisions is divided into four regions: Lenin, Pervomay, Sverdlov, and Oktyabr regions.
Most of Kyrgyzstan’s industry is located in Bishkek.
The uniqueness of Bishkek’s planning structure lies in the development of its industrial zones along the railroad. The city is divided into two industrial zones: the eastern zone and the western. Transportation system and pedestrian ways connect industrial and administrative regions with each other. Green areas are represented by squares, boulevards, parks, forest plantations planted in the suburb area, lakes and water pools.
The fields of science and education are represented by the National Academy of Science and numerous secondary- and higher education institutions. Bishkek is the centre of Kyrgyzstan’s national culture. Theatres, the National Philharmonic, libraries, museums are located here.
Communication infrastructure of the city is developing intensely: there are already several Internet-providers, and large numbers of local, global, and corporate networks have been created. Three cellular network operators and several operators of trunk radio communication function in Bishkek.
